Charleston Plantation Tours

Charleston’s wealth was created centuries ago based on the growing of rice and indigo on plantations laid out all over the Low Country.Take a plantation tour to learn about the historic importance of these estates in our nation’s history — and in the United States’ rice industry. Plantation tours allow visitors to step back in time and meet the families who ran these estates.

Join Capt. Bob as he takes you back in time for a tour of one of four available plantations. You’ll learn about the agriculture, horticulture, and natural wildlife of the plantation, as well as the life of the enslaved Africans upon whose backs this wealth was created.

Some of our tours of plantations in Charleston include:

  • Magnolia Plantation
  • Middleton Plantation
  • Drayton Hall
  • Boone Hall

Includes transportation to and from the plantations with historical narration along the way. $350 for a 3 hour tour for up to 4 guests.

“VERY highly recommend Lowcountry Walking Tours, particularly “Captain Bob.” Lowcountry Walking Tours was easy to work with and highly attentive to our requests for this tour. They were quick to communicate with us and accomodate us. Captain Bob was the best part of our trip to Charleston. He was immensely knowledgable about the topic of our tour (architecture) but also about the horticulture and plant life in the area and history of Charleston and the US. We were all impressed with his knowledge and even more so with his character. He was such a nice, intelligent, interesting person. If you want any type of walking tour, go with Lowcountry Walking Tours and ask for Captain Bob.” –Jessica F. on Yelp

“We did a private walking tour which was a combination of the 3 walking tours that were offered. We had a Wonderful time & thoroughly enjoyed our guide Evans — we really felt like we had a history lesson plus loved all the places that we saw & the great hospitality. Would highly recommend the private walking tour! So personal & we could hear everything that was said and could freely ask any questions!! Just the right length of time!” –A recent TripAdvisor Reviewer

“Bill was exceptional. We were so fortunate to be accompanied by an excelled teacher of history with a hip and informative sense of humor and historical record. I simply can’t imagine anyone else as good as Bill. Being with him for two hours made us want to move to Charleston.” – Google Review by daledrive44
